How Far in Advance Should You Book Movers?
The honest answer: it depends on your date. Here's how the calendar actually works in Phoenix, so you can plan around it.
The general guidance
Off-peak mid-month weekday: 1–2 weeks is usually enough
Spring and autumn weekends: 2–4 weeks
End of month, any month: 3–4 weeks, minimum
Summer (May–September): 2–3 weeks, and book the earliest start time you can get
Peak season (October–April) weekends: 3–5 weeks
Long-distance or interstate: 4–8 weeks, because shared trailers fill up early
Why the end of the month is the worst time to book late
Leases in Phoenix overwhelmingly start and end on the first of the month. That squeezes an enormous share of the city's moves into the final three days of every month. On those dates, the best crews are booked weeks out, and what's left is the last available slot at whatever time nobody else wanted.
If your lease ends on the 31st, your move doesn't have to happen on the 31st. Moving two or three days earlier, and paying a few days of overlap rent, often saves more than the difference in moving cost — and gets you a better crew at a better time.
Which days are cheapest
Tuesday through Thursday, in the middle of the month. Fridays are in demand, weekends are the peak, and Monday inherits the weekend backlog. If your schedule has any flexibility at all, a Tuesday mid-month move is the easiest booking and often the best value.
What to have ready when you call
Your dates — the date you must be out, and the date you can be in
Both addresses, including floor and whether there's an elevator
Size of the move: studio, two bedrooms, house with a garage
Stairs at either end, and roughly how far the truck will park from the door
Anything oversized or fragile
Whether you need packing, loading only, or full service
With those six things, most companies can give you a real quote on the first call rather than playing phone tag.
If you're moving on short notice
It's often still possible. Short-notice moves work best when you can be flexible on the day and time, or when you're booking labor help rather than a full truck and crew.
Take the least convenient time slot rather than holding out for a perfect one
Be ready to move mid-week
Book labor-only and rent your own truck if the crew is the constraint
Call rather than emailing — availability changes by the hour and the phone is faster
What to avoid
Booking the cheapest quote you can find without checking reviews. Moving is one of the most complained-about industries in the country for a reason.
Paying a large deposit in cash up front. A reasonable deposit with a written agreement is normal; a demand for most of the total in cash is not.
Hiring a company with no physical address and no USDOT number. You can verify both — we're happy to give you ours.
Book early, breathe easy
The single best thing you can do for a calm move is call early. If your date is set, call 602-672-0484 today and we'll lock it in — and if your plans are still vague, we'll tell you honestly when to call back.
